Tamron was founded in 1950. The present corporate name dates from 1959 after Mr. Uhyoue Tamura, who was a prominently recognized optical designer who laid the foundations of the company.
Tamron is traded on the JASDAQ and is in Omiya, Japan (the location for R&D, experimental, sales and business control) with several facilities in Northern Japan and China.
Tamron’s Industrial Optics Division was formed in 1960. The first CCTV lenses were introduced five years later: the 25mm F/1.9 and 16mm F/1.8 for 1” Vidicon. Tamron is the pioneer of the Vari-Focal lens, releasing the first of its kind in 1986.
